We are looking for someone to join us as a Data Compliance Audit Officer (Scale 4/5) in our Covert Operations Management Unit. Could you be who we are looking for?

About the team/Department you will be joining:

The Covert Operations Management Unit is made up of several small teams including the Covert Authorities Bureau and the Communications Data Investigation Unit.

The primary responsibility of the unit is to provide a gateway for applications being made under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA), The Police Act 1997 and the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (IPA).

The vacancy is based in Bridgend with core hours between 08.00hrs to 16.00hrs Monday to Friday.

About the role and your key responsibilities:

  • The role supports the unit in assessing the accuracy of data, maintaining key records and ensuring all data is managed in accordance with local and national guidance and relevant legislation.
  • Individuals are required to effectively engage with internal and external customers at all levels, in order to provide a high-quality standard of service and maintain confidentiality in relation to data protection issues and management of police information standards.
  • There is also a requirement to create, store, maintain, retrieve, and update records/data both manual and electronic on a local and national systems. Use common systems relevant to area of work to enable manipulation of information and initial investigation of customer queries/problems.  Based on a specific brief write and present findings or information to include recommendations and actions.  To gather and collate research information for self and others. 
  • What skills and experience do we need you to bring to the role:
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a range of administrative and research activities, paying particular attention to business processes by assessing and extracting relevant data from Force Information Systems and supplying accurate and relevant information to Senior Management in a timely manner. They will also audit and maintain data within Force Information Systems.
  • Individuals must be computer literate and competent in Microsoft applications and be experienced in using a variety of information management systems. They should also have experience in using local policing systems such as Niche RMS, Charter, PNC and PND or be prepared to undergo and successfully pass such training. They must be able to develop, implement and monitor policies. They must have a working knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018, Computer Misuse Act 1990 and appreciate the restrictions involving data security. Have a good practical and theoretical knowledge of MOPI, CPIA, GDPR, RIPA, IPA, Police Act & respective Codes of Practice. 
  • Previous experience working in the covert policing arena would be advantageous.
