Job Description

Job purpose:

To provide high quality day care to all the children attending the UHB day care settings. To work under the supervision of the advanced nursery practitioners. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To verbally communicate with the children, team members and parents under the supervision of the advanced nursery practitioner/nursery nurse.
  • To assist the advanced nursery practitioner/nursery nurse in supervising children’s activities.
  • To assist the advanced nursery practitioner, nursery nurse and nursery practitioner in recording the children’s development.
  • To attend to the needs of the children aged between 3 months and 5 years as and when required.
  • Have an up-to-date knowledge of safety, Safeguarding and fire procedures.
  • To assist with toilet training, nappy changing and help the children learn good standards of personal hygiene.
  • To promote practices of good health promotion to the child and family.
  • To observe and comply with the nursery guidelines, systems and practices in order to ensure that a high standard of care is maintained in accordance with the minimum requirements lay down by CIW.
  • To maintain and keep clean all nursery equipment and report repairs when required.
  • To report concerns of any nature, regarding a child to the appropriate member of staff.
  • To report concerns of any nature, regarding a parent/carers and or a nursery team member to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Adhere to the local guidelines and practical procedures of the nursery.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To work flexibly within the nursery as part of all the team.
  • To work within the UHB guidelines and be aware of UHB Policies.
  • To take part in study provided by the UHB to enable personal and professional development.

Education, training and qualifications

  • Level 2 day-care childcare qualification
  • Level 2 in numeracy
  • Level 2 in literacy

Skills and abilities

  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Ability to follow instruction and to work under own imitative as necessary
  • Ability to adapt to meet the needs of the service within a team environment
  • Ability to work varying shifts between the hours of 7:00am - 6:00pm Monday to Friday
  • Attendance at staff meetings outside normal hours

Desirable Qualifications

  • Paediatric First Aid
  • Food H&H
  • Safeguarding

Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrate post qualification experience in a day care setting with children aged three months to five years.
  • Experience of contributing towards daily planning and assisting in the  undertaking of observations
  • Basic knowledge of child care development and an awareness of children's needs
  • An awareness of the Curriculum for Wales
