Job Description

Ready to take the next step in your planning career? We’re looking for experienced and driven planners to join our Development Management Team in a senior role, taking the lead on a diverse and challenging caseload of major, complex and high-profile applications. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping places and communities. You’ll manage applications from pre-application stage through to decision, prepare and present reports at Planning Committee, and represent the Council at appeals, hearings and inquiries. You will be a strong team player who can contribute positively to the team and be able to demonstrate initiative and good judgement in making recommendations on a wide range of planning matters. You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and contribute to a high-quality service to our customers.

As a Senior Planner, you’ll also support and mentor colleagues, contribute to service improvements, and help maintain a high-performing, customer-focused planning service. We’re looking for someone with significant experience in Development Management within a local authority; strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy and procedures; confidence handling complex casework and competing priorities and excellent communication, negotiation and report-writing skills Welsh speaking and writing skills are desirable. We will also support new and existing employees who wish to learn Welsh or improve/develop their Welsh language skills.
