Job Description

Public Health Wales is expanding its dedicated IT Network Engineering team and recruiting a new, permanent Senior Networking Engineer. 

You will assist the Technical Services Manager in delivering networking services and providing expertise across the trust. Our experienced team maintains and develops the trust's Wales‑wide local network infrastructure and deals with escalated queries to enable the delivery of trust programmes. 

Main duties of the job

Working closely with our Cloud Team, the role will contribute to the development of Azure Cloud Platform networking, while advances in high‑speed mobile data and satellite technologies create new opportunities for delivering connectivity to non‑fixed sites.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • IT degree or equivalent specialist knowledge and expertise gained through experience or study.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development for self.
  • Good general knowledge of common hardware and software applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more of the following data network technologies: - • Routing & Switching • Network Access Control technologies • Network monitoring technologies • Wireless technologies.

Desirable criteria

  • Masters qualification.
  • ITIL qualification. CCNP qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of firewalls.
  • Knowledge of modern telephony platform.
  • Registered with a relevant informatics professional body.
  • Knowledge of: SIP cloud telephony • software defined networking • Cisco Firepower • Cisco ISE • Cisco Wireless technologies • Solarwinds NPM / IPAM • Mitel telephony platform Cisco IOS XE Knowledge of NHS.
  • Knowledge of NHS Wales organisations.
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS standards and legal requirements relating to Information Governance and Security.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working in a technical support role and proven experience in the development and support of IT systems.
  • Experience of leading in developing and implementing network related systems and services.
  • Solid understanding and appreciation of project finances, risk, and benefits realisation.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of administering of Mitel telephony platform.
