Job Title: People & Payroll Officer

Location: Cardiff

Hours: Full-time (flexible working options available)

Contract: (12 months temporary - Maternity Cover)

About the Role

An established public sector organisation is seeking an experienced People & Payroll Officer to join their HR team on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave.

This role will provide essential transactional HR and payroll support, ensuring employee records and payroll activities are accurate, compliant, and delivered in a timely manner. You will play a key role in supporting employees across the organisation while contributing to continuous improvement within HR services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver day-to-day HR and payroll administration support
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure data integrity within HR systems
  • Support payroll processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments
  • Assist with routine reporting and data requests
  • Support HR systems maintenance and updates
  • Contribute to security checks and vetting processes
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation
  • Identify opportunities for service improvement within HR processes

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in HR administration and/or payroll support
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Experience maintaining HR systems and employee records
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR/payroll systems

Desirable

  • Experience working in the public sector
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance
  • Experience supporting HR processes such as vetting or onboarding
