Job Description

Do you have experience of working with children? Are you caring in nature? Supportive and non-judgemental?

Important role have arisen within the Child and Family Support Team at Swansea Council for Family Connect Workers. We have a number of part time and full time posts available.

As a Family Connect Worker your primary role will be to provide high quality family time sessions for children and families involved with Children's Services. You will supervise the sessions between children and young people who are at risk of significant harm, and specific adults where there is a legal requirement, or to safeguard a child's emotional, social or physical wellbeing, as well as supporting families to develop parenting skills.

In order to provide the high-quality family time sessions expected, you will need to establish rapport and build a respectful relationship with parents, their children and families by identifying and reducing any risk to children in line with child protection procedures and safeguarding. Building these positive and respectful relationships with families, listening to children, and ensuring they are involved in decisions that affect their lives is at the heart of what we do in Swansea.

Perhaps you have previously worked in child minding? A nursery worker? teaching assistants? Or have an understanding of working with children? Your skills could lend themselves to participating in activities to ensure a safe and hygienic work environment which ensures families feel valued and respected, by creating an environment that encourages developmental opportunities for the child/children and ensures that the contact is a positive experience.

You will meet families from all walks of life and will be resilient yet sensitive to the environment whilst maintaining professional boundaries. A large part of the role will be to record accurate, factual and concise reports. For this you will need to be computer literate and have good IT skills, as well as having great organisational and communication skills.

In Swansea, we have a very clear vision, which is well understood by the current workforce, that wherever safe, children should remain in the care of their birth families. Signs of Safety is our practice framework and we have used the reclaiming Social Work model to form supported care planning pods, led by a Practice Lead. This supports good supervision and collaboration between staff.

This role sits within a well-established team, and full training, support and mentoring will be given. If you think that this role sounds like something you would thrive in and you are committed to supporting families in order for them to be the best they can be, we would be pleased to hear from you.
