Substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with Specialist Complex Trauma, Orthoplastic & Limb reconstruction skills.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for one Consultant Trauma surgeon with expertise in Complex Trauma management, Orthoplastic and Limb reconstruction to join our regional service. Joining 5 other specialist trauma surgeons as we grow and develop this new and continually evolving service. Swansea Bay University Health Board provides many tertiary referral services with Morriston Hospital a designated Major Trauma Unit Plus within the Major Trauma Network of South Wales. Trauma services are delivered to the local and wider population in conjunction with our Plastic Surgical colleagues with the majority of lower limb recon with the network done on the Morriston site.

Complex Trauma, Orthoplastic and limb reconstruction continue to demand significant time and resource with the Welsh Health Specialise Services Committee recognising the need for additional funding to support expansion and resilience in the Consultant workforce to provide this service. 

Research and Development and teaching are fundamental to the service as a result of close working links with Swansea University Medical School, currently ranked 4th in the UK.
