Job Description

Basis: Part time

Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people within residential care?

We are recruiting to expand our pool of relief residential childcare workers. We have 5 homes, across Newport, providing long term care and a short breaks home for children with disabilities. You will become part of the team, being flexible in covering shifts across all our homes and within the community, as and when required, sometimes at short notice. We are a service that provides children with a 365 day a year, 24 hour a day service.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Newport City Council’s residential service. We are looking for staff who have the right values, motivation and commitment to work in this rewarding yet challenging role. You will become part of a team providing a stimulating, nurturing environment to enable our children to reach their full potential.

Experience of working in residential homes would be preferable but we also recognise that individuals come with a wide range of experiences and transferable skills and so it is not essential. We offer an excellent induction and training package, including supporting you to attain a level 3 qualification in working with Children and Young people, if you do not already have this. We also provide training and support to enable you to work in an attachment focussed way and provide children with the much-needed support, and the opportunity for you to be able to build a healthy & positive relationship, which can result in you, having the biggest and most rewarding impact on that child’s life.

This document is available in Welsh / Mae’r ddogfen hon ar gael yn Gymraeg.

We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.

Newport City Council is committed to working towards its workforce being more representative of the population that we serve and particularly welcomes applications from people from the minority ethnic communities represented (or living) in the city. Selection will be made on ability and skills to undertake the role.
