The Crown Prosecution Service is responsible for the independent and fair prosecution of criminal cases in England and Wales. Our duty is to make sure that the right person is prosecuted for the right offence, and to bring offenders to justice wherever possible. Our work is supported by a diverse team of crown prosecutors and senior crown prosecutors, who objectively review evidence to secure the right outcome in every case.
About our crown prosecutors
The crown prosecutor position is ideal if you’re a newly qualified lawyer or have no criminal law experience. You’re based in the magistrates’ court, working with prosecution teams to review and present evidence in cases ranging from common assault to drugs offences. You gain a wealth of experience in the criminal court, further developing your legal knowledge and potential career progression.
About our senior crown prosecutors
As a senior crown prosecutor, you deliver justice in some of the most complex and challenging cases – from fraud and firearms to public order and corporate manslaughter. Your role is largely office-based, reviewing evidence and charging decisions for cases appearing in the magistrates’ and Crown Court. You provide legal advice and explain our decisions to criminal justice partners and victims of crime, helping to maintain public confidence in our work.
About you
We’re looking for qualified practising lawyers with an interest in criminal prosecution. Senior crown prosecutors must have extensive knowledge of criminal law, including the most serious offences. You demonstrate sound legal judgement and can present cases clearly, both verbally and in writing.
