Community Development Worker

1. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team and help us promote our work and set up new projects.
2. The purpose of the role is to develop CoStar’s projects and set up new projects, to encourage community participation and reduce social isolation.
3. The role will be based across both of CoStar’s sites and will help to develop and promote usage of our projects.

25 hours per week – one year fixed contract

About us

CoStar is a small community development charity based at the Threepenny Bit Community centre in Cwmbran.  Our mission is to relieve poverty and to raise the quality of life for local residents.

We are a small team of dedicated staff and volunteers who work hard to provide a range of services to help our local community.

Our projects include:

• Foodbank and food co-op
• Paint reuse scheme
• Lunch Club and Breakfast Club
• Art and craft classes
• Ancestry Class and Heritage Events
• Environmental / litter picking / fly tipping reduction
• Special Events, open days

Job Role

The purpose of the role is to develop CoStar’s projects and set up new projects, to encourage community participation and reduce social isolation. The role will be based across both of CoStar’s sites and will help to develop and promote usage of our projects. It will involve occasional travel to local venues to promote CoStar and carry out networking activities.

Main duties:

• Consult with community to ascertain needs
• Develop and create new projects
• Co-ordinate special events, open days, trips etc.
• Promote and publicise all of CoStar’s activities using social media, website, flyers, leaflet drops.
• Assist with small funding applications as appropriate
• Act as a bridge between 3rd sector organisations and the wider community
• Liaise with mainstream providers and provide signposting to ensure the community can access advice and support.
• Assist with monitoring attendance and collecting statistics as required.
