BME Community Outreach Worker    
Newport£20,736 - 22,122 (pro-rata) 
To provide an outreach service amoung BME Communities in Newport for individuals, families and communities affected by substance misuse
To develop regular women and men only group sessions amoung different communities to discuss issues and needs experienced by substance misuse
Working in partnership with the Education/Training and Information Workers, identify needs and provide substance misuse information workshops to young people, community groups, gender groups, etc
Give information on treatment options and support people into making choices about their own substance misuse
In consultation with the Chief Executive, identify new areas of need and ideas to support communities in addressing substance misuse issues

Main Tasks
Provide gender and youth group sessions to communities, raising awareness about substances, their use and effects
Work with the education/training worker to provide community education and training workshops on substance misuse
Consult with community members and groups to identify specific needs

Direct experience of working with BME communities
Previous experience if working with drug or alcohol users
An awareness of cultural issues in relation to substance misuse
Knowledge of harm reduction and relapse prevention techniques
Experience of project developments
Experience of working with treatment providers and other related agencies
To be self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team
Ability to maintain clear and accurate records
Ability to write and present reports as required
Experience of working on a one-to-on basis with or in group sessions with users
Ability to work within confidentiality policies
Ability to work in a non-judgemental and anti-discriminatory manner
Experience of referral systems and accessing services on behalf of clients
The ability to work flexibly
Good interpersonal skills
IT and presentation skills
Ability to empower and motivate others
An understanding of equal opportunities

Full driving licence and access to a car
Experience of community development work
Some knowledge of working with volunteers
The ability to speak at least one ethnic minority language
