Newlink Wales was established in 1999, and is recognised as a key provider of services supporting and working in partnership with communities and agencies that provide services to substance misusers in Wales. It specialises in the delivery of substance misuse training, volunteer placements, and also information and support services, to Black & Minority Ethnic communities.
Newlink Wales has developed high standards in the recruitment, training and support of volunteers who wish to work with substance misuses’. We are looking for a Director of Volunteering who will oversee the development of volunteer services and support our existing co-ordinators in their work.
We have a number of programmes within our volunteer service in addition to our generic volunteering. A MILE Programme (Mentoring in Learning & Education) for ex-service users who wish to eventually become a volunteer in treatment agencies were they were once clients. We have a NewSteps service user volunteer programme, which is for those who are still in treatment and who wish to volunteer in environmental, conservation, animal, placements (non treatment) and focus on volunteering & learning skills, including qualifications to enable them to move forward. Newlink Wales was the first organisation in Wales to gain and subsequently renew the INV Kite standard for volunteering
The post holder with jointly act as deputy to the CEO with the Director of Training. Therefore the person we require must be educated to a diploma / degree level or equivalent and have experience at senior management level of providing voluntary / statutory sector services. An understanding of the Welsh Assembly Governments strategy for substance misuse, and local government& health agendas will be desirable. Direct experience of working with volunteers is essential as is an extensive knowledge of substance misuse or experience of working with treatment providers and other associated services.
