DOMICILIARY CARE HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER - BANK
Hours: Bank Hours
Salary: £8.79 per hour (plus additional payments for unsocial hours: between 22:00 and 08:00 26% on hourly rate; weekends (48 hours) 8.5% on hourly rate; Bank Holidays 33% on hourly rate [only one of these enhancements is paid per any hour], Sleep-ins £31.36 per night
Period of Notice: 1 week during probation; 4 weeks thereafter
Probationary Period: 6 Months but can be extended if needed
Based at: Bridgend
Responsible to: Practice Leader, Bridgend
Main Relationships Internal: Hafal staff, Hafal members, occupants and service users.
Main Relationships External: Service Users, Social Services, CMHTs, Health Boards, Housing Associations, CIW, Community Agencies

Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the Practice Leader, to improve the lives of people with serious mental illness by contributing to the delivery of Hafal’s services in Bridgend line with our commitment to principles of empowerment, self-management and recovery and ensuring compliance with internal and external quality standards inspection and regulation (including CIW).

About this job:

Hafal delivers a recovery model of housing support which includes both shared accommodation and floating support to individuals living independently. Staff will support individuals who experience a serious mental illness and who will need a medium level of support to help with their recovery. The service will be staffed 7 days a week, including unsocial hours. The aim of the Practice Leader and staff team, will be to encourage and enable clients to reach a greater level of independence over a reasonable period of time, and then to facilitate their move on and or maintain their independence.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Supporting and assisting occupants with the following:

  • Feeling secure within their home
  • Increasing independent living skills
  • Use appliances safely, undertaking routine and minor domestic repairs, and maintaining reasonable domestic standards
  • Personal finance, budgeting, and accessing benefits
  • Mental and physical healthcare
  • Self management of medication
  • Attending appointments
  • Visitors and their access to individual’s property
  • Building and maintaining relationships with neighbours, families, friends, professionals
  • Developing skills and interests
  • Pursuing training/educational/employment goals and aspirations
  • Pursuing leisure/recreational goals and interests
  • Developing links with the local community-based resources and opportunities
  • Signposting, joint work and referral on to other specialist agencies, intervening in crisis situation
  • Recognition of and coping strategies in respect of risk, triggers and avoiding relapse
  • Housing move-on planning and arrangements from the housing project (resettlement activities)
  • Promoting recovery

  • Attending training courses and other as required
  • Maintaining records and statistics required to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the service
  • Carrying out all reasonable tasks commensurate with the post as directed by line manager
  • Implementing the Hafal Equal Opportunities Policy and all other Hafal policies and procedures
  • Working in accordance with Hafal’s Recovery Programme
  • Working to a 2 shift pattern (mornings and evenings) or as required by the service.
