Hours: 35 hours per week

Term: Twelve months temporary post (Potential to be extended subject to funding)

Salary: £27,600 per annum

Job Purpose:

To support and grow the church and community led response to rough sleeping in Swansea, and lead on projects to assist people into a life away from the streets. To work in partnership with other organisations at a strategic and operational level. To be a key team member in Wales and contribute to our wider work across the nation.

Main duties

* To work with churches, faith and community groups, and other organisations to support and launch an emergency winter Night Shelter, based on the Housing Justice model, for people sleeping rough in the local authority
* To assist in mapping current housing need and existing provision, and provide data that can be shared with partners
* To ensure effective monitoring and recording of Night Shelter and Mentoring data
* To work with the Director of Housing Justice Cymru to develop the Citadel (Mentoring & Befriending) project in Swansea to support former Guests of the Night Shelter and prevent their return to homelessness.
* To lead on the recruitment of volunteers to support the Night Shelter
* To plan and deliver training to volunteers for the Night Shelter and Citadel projects.
* To provide advice and support to churches and other organisations on housing and homelessness
* To develop and maintain good working relationships and communication with voluntary and statutory housing and homelessness agencies
* To promote the work of Housing Justice by speaking at and attending events, particularly opportunities to engage with local churches.
* To raise the profile of Housing Justice Cymru and seek opportunities for us to have an impact.

Other Duties

* To assist the Director in developing the work of Housing Justice Cymru throughout Wales and supporting our work nationally
* To assist in supporting the network of church led winter Night Shelters throughout Wales and ensure effective data gathering and monitoring
* To explore funding opportunities for the continuation of the role
* To attend training and regular supervision
* To undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Director or Management Team at Housing Justice
* To ensure that you are sympathetic to the Christian aims and values of the organisation in all aspects of the role
* To be flexible according to the needs of the role. This means being available to work during evenings and weekends, or overnight in the Night Shelter when required.

The post holder will report to the Director of the company.

The post holder will be based at home as a remote worker, and so should be based within reasonable travelling distance of Swansea. You will also be expected to travel to our clients office in London for staff meetings.

The post holder must be able to drive and own a car that they can use for work purposes.

Person Specification

The Catalyst Worker will have a strong vision of the role of churches in working for social justice, and of care for the most vulnerable and marginalised being an integral part of Christian mission.
