Technical Support Engineer

Location: Wrexham Technology Park

Salary/Package: Competitive Salary + Medical benefits

Vacancy Type: Permanent

Hours: full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Motor Design Limited (MDL) is the developer of Motor-CAD, the most complete and integrated multi-physics electric motor design software. As world leaders, the company provides advanced tools and engineering services for the design of electrical machines and its software is distributed worldwide, with clients including major manufacturing companies within the automotive, aerospace and industrial sectors such as Daimler, BMW, JLR, BAE Systems, Siemens, ABB and GE.

MDL's expert knowledge is used to design electric machines on many cutting edge research and innovation projects; including electric and hybrid vehicles, aerospace components, wind turbines and racing cars.

Priding itself on a friendly and supportive environment with a real family-ethos, the company is looking for a Technical Support Engineer to join the team and support their ambitious plans.

What will this role of Technical Support Engineer entail?

You will join a growing and dynamic team of 8 colleagues within the company's Software Department, where you'll be given comprehensive training to provide enterprise-level assistance to our customers.

Your duties will include, although not be limited to:

Diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems and help our customers install applications and programs.

Provide first level technical support to customer requests using email, phone calls and web meetings.

Escalate unresolved issues to appropriate internal teams

Track and report customer requests

Write and update user guides

Assist in the release of the software and conduct pre-release software testing

What will I need to be considered for this Technical Support Engineer vacancy?

A degree in Physics / Engineering / Computer Science, with a minimum grade of 2:1

Strong IT skills

A technical mindset, with strong analytical skills and practical ability

You're naturally a helper, enjoy assisting people with computer issues and can explain technical details simply.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Competent in using the Microsoft Office suite of applications

Although not essential, the following would be highly advantageous for this role:

Knowledge of Programming using C++, Python or Matlab

Knowledge of FlexNet licencing technology

Knowledge of Spiceworks Help desk

Knowledge of electric motors and their applications

Experience of electromagnetics, thermal or mechanical modelling
