Reporting to the PMO Manager, the Technical Author will work within the Delivery team to translate their System Designs, Training Plans and Operations and Maintenance Plans into core product documentation, for multiple purposes and uses:
* Internal use
* Marketing purposes
* For use by Trainers to train third parties
* For Deliverable Operations and Maintenance Manuals to end customers
* Support to new Bids in producing high quality Bid documentation

In addition to the generation and updating of technical publications, the successful candidate will also be responsible for controlling all project data within a controlled and standardised configuration environment.

* Create and update high quality documents for systems designs, product documentation, new bids, operations and maintenance, training etc.
* Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of technical/project terminology, acronyms and documentation.
* Manage parallel document publication delivery against a priority burn-down list, communicating status on a regular basis.
* Analyse documents to maintain continuity of style of content.
* Manage updates, changes, defects, builds, revisions and releases to technical literature.

* Set up a technical document framework and aiding the generation of documents by:
* working actively within the relevant technical experts to convert their knowledge and working process to structured content.
* documentation from observation.
* converting existing documents.
* Generation of high-quality figures and photographs aiding the review of documentation to customers and in-country partners with levels of experience in systems from none to high level knowledge.
* Ensure documentation control (numbering and version control, storage, and naming conventions) and release management.
* Set up and manage a document generation and publication control process (SharePoint).

The successful candidate will possess the following skills, experience:
* Technical background, ideally to degree level and/or alternatively, can demonstrate a minimum of 15 years engineering background in electrical/mechanical or systems engineering plus a minimum of 5 years' experience as a technical author.
* Capable of understanding systems drawings down to installation design drawings (racks, servers, schematics, power and comms)
* Able to demonstrate the ability to diplomatically influence without authority.
* Good communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence others including building and maintaining effective relationships with multiple stakeholders.
* Demonstrable experience in the application of lifecycle configuration management.
* Team player with ability to coach and mentor others as required.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines as necessary
