Gas Engineer / Plumber

£12.00 - £14.00 p/hr


You will install, maintain, and repair pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems in residential and commercial structures. Install domestic appliances, such as dishwashers and gas cookers. Inspect drainage and other plumbing systems for compliance with local and national regulations.

You will be able to understand technical drawings and you will work alongside experienced tradesmen of a wide range of disciplines, and perform in a safe and conscientious manner.


  • Interprets blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials
  • Installs pipes and fixtures, such as sinks and toilets, for water, gas, steam, air, or other liquids
  • Installs supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation
  • Assembles fittings and valves for installation
  • Modifies length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed for a building
  • Uses saws and pipe cutters as necessary
  • Installs heating and air-conditioning systems, including water heaters
  • Collaborates with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing
  • Tests plumbing systems for leaks and other problems
  • Analyses problem and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair
  • Chooses plumbing materials based on budget, location, and intended uses of building
  • Follows health and safety standards and complies with building codes
  • Writes report documenting the problem and summary of actions taken
  • Performs inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts
  • Prepares bids and schedules and oversees other workers, such as apprentices and helpers

  • Qualified to City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 (recognised trade qualification).
  • Qualified to work with Central heating, Gas Fires, Water heaters, Cookers, Pipe work, Unvented hot water.
  • Qualified Gas Safe Engineer (CCN1).


  • Oil (OFTEC) registered



  • Have at least 4 consecutive years’ experience of working in domestic plumbing.
  • Working as part of a team potentially undertaking cyclical and servicing contracts.
  • Providing a customer focused service.
  • Partake in the delivery a range of projects on time and within budget.
  • Achieving challenging targets and objectives.
  • Evidence of achieving excellence in review and delivery of services and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Have at least 2 consecutive years’ experience of working with domestic heating (gas/oil).


  • Designing and installing central heating systems in Domestic Properties.

Skills and Aptitude


  • Ability to identify plumbing defects and their remedies.
  • Budgeting and financial skills.
  • Have interpersonal skills.
  • Up to date health and safety knowledge.
  • Up to date knowledge of legislative frameworks and key issues relevant to the post.
  • Sound verbal, reasoning and written communication skills, with the ability to inform and educate colleagues should there be issues with an installation.
  • Ability to complete paperwork (to include timesheets, servicing paperwork) accurately and to a high standard.
  • Experience of working in domestic properties
  • Ability to record detailed and accurate repairs information relating to repair inspections or completed repair jobs
  • Able to use mobile electronic equipment
  • Experience of working with a range of portable tools, small plant, ladders and equipment to enable duties of the job to be carried out


  • Sound knowledge of performance management and how this contributes to business success.
  • Project management skills with an ability to plan, organise and prioritise effectively, in order to achieve targets and meet deadlines.
