It's an exciting time to join, as in 2017 our client celebrated its 100th year, and announced plans to build a new state-of-the art assembly hub in Newport. The new assembly hub is being designed to build a range of different trains, including diesel multiple units (DMUs), electric multiple units (EMUs), trams and high-speed trains.

Job Summary -

The Systems Engineer will be involved in all technical activities necessary to ensure the systems design is compliant to customer requirements and applicable law and standards, managing sub-suppliers equipment design, its integration and the verification and validation of the solutions. He will actively take part in the design enhancements needed to solve problems that arise during production, testing and commissioning.

The System Engineer will be involved with different electronic systems installed on board, like Passenger Information System, ASDO, Passenger Counting System, Seat Reservation System, Wifi.

For this purpose, s/he will work together with the Headquarters and UK Design Team, as well as with Procurement, SQA, Manufacturing and Testing teams; dealing with sub-suppliers for managing and monitoring.


•Lead the Interface between the system supplier and the rest of the team involve in the project: engineering team, quality, testing, approvals, purchasing and project management.

•Undertake design validation activities related to the Systems under their responsibility, and ensure the design is compliant with the System Specification.

•Follow-up pending issues to sort out the problems that arise during testing and commissioning activities.

•Manage all technical documentation applicable to the Systems under their responsibility (technical description, functional description, test procedures, configuration list…)

•Support the Approval process of the Systems design with Certified Bodies.

•Be fully familiar and conversant with department and company policies, procedures and processes, ensuring all work and actions undertaken are in full compliance with them.

Record keeping

Ensure accurate records are completed and maintained in accordance with procedures in place, and work in progress is communicated to Line Managers and team members.

Health, Safety & Environment

Ensure that all work carried out is compliant with health, safety and environmental legislation and Company policies and procedures.

Carry out quality checks to ensure, where relevant, product meets quality and safety standards.


•Is pro-active in the role and identifies improved ways of supporting the Company in managing its objectives.

•Participate as and when required in team and one-to-one meetings, and undertake training relevant to the role.

•Keep up to date with developments within the Company and other sector wide practices that influence the day-to-day activities within the role, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and any other relevant external/internal factors, for example, Company policies and procedures, Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental.

•Ensure, in the course of employment, complete confidentiality is maintained in respect of the Company, its dealings, transactions, and all other information relating to clients/ customers and staff.

•Promote the Company by whatever means are appropriate and available so as to ensure a positive image to customers/clients.

•Demonstrate commitment to the Company's values, and its aims and objectives, and the implementation of its Equal Opportunities policy in the workplace.

•In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined, you may be required to undertake other duties commensurate with your level and competence, which may result from changing circumstances, but which may not of necessity change the general character or level of responsibility to the post.

•Project follow up and reporting for Systems activities to System Coordinator and Head of Engineering.
