A position has become available to join our busy conveyancing team, to work Monday - Friday between the hours of 9am - 5pm.

Required qualifications, skills and experience

  • Trained in secretarial practice.
  • Previous experience as a legal secretary or experience of working in an alternative professional office.
  • Good telephone manner


The prime role of the legal secretary is to provide direct support the conveyancing department to enable the principal to operate at optimum efficiency. This will include but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below. The legal secretary is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative.

Main responsibilities

  • Liaise with solicitors, mortgage advisors, estate agents and clients to ensure processes are followed through and deadlines met
  • Drafting of completion statements to include contacting mortgage companies for redemption figures, estate agents for fees and clients for outstanding balances. Checking of Land Registry and Stamp Duty fees.
  • Completion of HMRC Stamp Duty and Welsh Land Tax Forms
  • Deal with incoming and outgoing post
  • Composing letters and documents on Case Management System.
  • Dealing with Land Registry registrations and requisitions raised.
  • To administer filing which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files in accordance with the detailed procedures contained in the Office Manual.
  • To prepare mail and enclosures for despatch.
  • To make appointments, arrange meetings and to maintain an up-to-date diary
  • To attend clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care.
  • To undertake any specific training when required to do so and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development.
  • To ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and clients’ documentation and information
