Care and Support Worker
Rhiwbina, Cardiff
Part Time – 25 Hours per week to include days & nights

Purpose of position:

To take joint responsibilities with the manager to secure and sustain in the home for the residents, promote high standards of care.  A caring environment conductive to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the residents.

Assist the manager to ensure that each resident receives care appropriate to his/her individual need.  To carry out the instruction of the manager, to implement the requirements of the registered residential home regulation and registered home amendment act.

The care assistance will undertake the nursing care duties, e.g. assisting client with daily living activities.  You may also assists clients to attend hospital appointments and escort the client on social or other visits.

Principle responsibilities:

  • Residents care, delivering the high standard of quality care to all customers
  • Ensure that each staff received a written copy of the terms and conditions of residents.
  • Ensure that adequate arrangements for the introduction and reception of new residents are made.
  • Ensure that emotional, spiritual, physical, medical and daily needs of the residents are recognised.
  • Encourage the residents in the taking of decisions in matters which affect their life style.
  • Make or contribute to the assessment of the need of each resident in conjunction with the resident and the resident’s family.  Develop a plan which provide a satisfactory quality of life for that client.
  • Promote relationships which enable each resident to participate in the life of the local community to the maximum of the ability.
  • Ensure the provision of health care arrangement which will include the regular ordering of the prescribed medication.
  • Investigate complaints, take appropriate action and report to the manager.
  • Assisting the GP or the district nurse on each visit to the home.  Discussing particular problems of residents.
  • Ensuring that, on the death of a resident, the correct procedures are followed in respect of GP, relatives, and others.
  • Ensuring that the home maintains a healthy and safe environment.
  • Assists the manager in all aspects of managing the home, if necessary.
  • Undertaking all other duties as necessary.
  • Assist the manager to ensure that there is good communication with and between relative and residents.
  • To be responsible with the manager for the efficient running of the domestic aspects of the home which will include the following tasks: planning menus with residents, ensuring that dietary needs are met, good standards of food presentation are maintained, supplies are orders, and good standard of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications

  • QCF Level 2 or 3 in health and Social Care
  • Full drivers licence
  • Flexible approach to working
  • Previous experience as a care worker or as an unpaid carer
  • Other Specialist training
  • Understanding of Supporting people to live independently

Records

  • Ensure that records required by the residential care home regulations and registered home amendment act are complied and kept in a place in the home at all times.

Premises

  • Informed the manager of any malfunction of the heating, lighting, or emergency system and ensure the security of the premises.
  • Ensure that legislation and regulations concerning environmental health, planning and health and safety are complied with and to discuss with manager accordingly where action is required.
  • Ensure that the fire alarms are complied with and discuss with the manager if there are areas of risk.
