Mechanical Technical Operative
Location: Memory Lane Cakes, Cardiff
Work Days: 4 on 4 off, Days 6am-6pm
Contract: Temporary 6 month & Permanent roles available
Salary Range: £9.81 per hour

We are excited to be offering an opportunity to become a Mechanical Technical Operative. The successful candidate will be part of operations, undertaking an important role within the business. We are looking for people that are looking for career progression at Memory Lane Cakes and to ensure that we meet our standards on site.

Purpose of the Role

The role of the Technical Operative is to set up and operate a continuous operation of machinery in ensuring products meet all specifications and detect problems making adjustments as necessary. Technical Operators complete the first line of maintenance on all plant relevant to their area. Planned Preventative Maintenance is a daily part of the role. Technical operators are able to perform effectively in manufacturing departments throughout Memory Lane.

Some of the Role Key Accountabilities (including but not limited to) are:

  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance, repair and adjustments of machinery e.g. replace seals, pins, track conveyors, lubricate etc
  • Contribute to the development of and where appropriate the maintenance of the lines Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) systems.
  • Ensure root cause of downtime is investigated and corrective action proposed and implemented through daily Short Interval Control (SIC) reviews and PPM systems.
  • Minimise downtime through operator maintenance and PPM in conjunction with engineering resource
  • Responsible for plant prep in terms of setting up and changeovers, ensuring that all downtime is minimised.
  • Understanding of the sites Food Safety, HACCP, QA and hygiene standards
  • Ensure that Food safety systems are complied with and hygiene standards are achieved, and that all documentation is completed. Responsible for producing specified products as per the shift plan.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Collect packaging from stores and place in carton machine
  • Metal detection and coding set up and barcode verification
  • Accident reporting and near miss reporting procedures are followed and acted upon immediately
  • Promote health and safety throughout the line at all times and encourages a safe working environment.
  • Encourage team working to create a positive and supportive environment & Effective time management for self, others and plant
  • Communicate regularly within the team, and encourage team working to create a positive and supportive environment and contribute to overall improvements on the line. Use SIC reviews to communicate and share knowledge and experience with others
  • To complete NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operation is essential

  • Problem Solving Techniques & Basic engineering capability
  • H&S & Food Safety Legislation & Strong Communication Skills and good social skills
  • Experience of working to set targets and deadlines &Good work ethic is essential as is reliability and commitment to the company. Have pride in your work and add value to the Company
