Job Purpose

  • This cross functional high-profile role is responsible for the accurate costing of all products from conception through launch to post launch review. The role is critical to ongoing product re-engineering to drive further cost and efficiency benefits to the site and for ensuring products are developed that meet both FFG and customer profitability expectations.  This role is also responsible for post launch review of capital spend.
Role Key Accountabilities

To manage, and advance, the costing process, ensuring product cost accuracy, and drive ongoing cost management /cost reduction of products, including the delivery of (but not limited to):

  • Ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of all costings at all stages of the NPD, go live, and new launch stages.
  • Develop strong cross departmental working and business partner NPD, Operations and commercial to ensure all parties are aligned and accountable for the assumptions used within a robust and collaborative costing process
  • Ensure effective communications to all relevant parties on the status, development and challenges of all costings.
  • Development and continuing improvement of the current costing process to enhance costing efficiency, accuracy and clarity.
  • Liaise with the Commercial Accountants and Development Account Managers in order to prioritise workloads.
  • Carry out 12 week post launch reviews of NPD products
  • Liaise with the Management Accountants to ensure effective transfer of products post 12 week review to ongoing product status.
  • Highlight areas of opportunity for product engineering, product harmonisation and cost mitigation. Proactive drive projects in these areas to drive site profitability.
  • Ensure Capex evaluations are carried out for any material capex spend with learnings being shared and carried forward
  • Be an active member of the Finance Team ensuring a close understand of factory performance and challenges.
  • Manage and develop costing analyst
  • Ensuring accurate costings of products at all stages of the NPD process.
  • Support and influence commercial team to deliver products at costs that meet both customer and FFG margin expectations.
  • Maintain the BOM for all products up to and including the post 12 week launch review.
  • Ensure attendance at all product trials and post launch reviews.
  • Ensure the maintenance and improvement of costing models incorporating up to date standards.
  • Tracking the progress of all costings in development.
  • Drive cost reduction through cost mitigation and value engineering products
  • Budget and forecasting activity relating to product standard costs and profit enhancement initiatives.
  • Ensure Capex evaluations are carried out for any material capex spend with learnings being shared and carried forward
  • Ensure 12 week post evaluations are carried out for key product launches
  • Drive best practice for product costing across FFG Cake division and Group


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Degree or similar relevant qualification
  • Holder of a recognised accountancy qualification (i.e. CIMA)
  • Costing experience (preferably in FMCG)
  • Driven individual with high learning agility
  • Consistent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Positive communicator and relationship builder with key stakeholders
  • Strong determination and shows tenacity when facing challenging situations
  • Strong focus on process and procedure development and enhancement
  • Adaptable and able to prioritise multiple tasks to tight deadlines
  • Excellent Excel Modelling skills
  • Experience in reviewing financial performance of projects/initiatives
  • Experience of managing people/team

Other Role Information

A key feature for this role is the timely and accurate preparation and supply of product costing information to the business requested timelines. Further to this the role is key in driving a reduction in production costs through value engineering, product harmonisation and cost mitigation initiatives.

The role is required to become fully integrated with multiple departments including NPD, Commercial and Operations. The role requires gravitas and excellent communication skills to facilitate multi departmental collaboration. This will lead to all parties’ involvement within product costing, resulting in improved accuracy, accountability and ownership.

Based at the Cardiff site, but may occasionally be required to travel to other sites within the Group.
