SALARY: £10.50 per hour, £11.50 Per hour unsocial
HOURS: 2 x 6 hour day shifts
(Additional hours may be available to cover holidays and sick leave)

To provide support and facilitate the independence of our client, a young lady who lives in Penarth with her parents and siblings. She has a mild learning disability, spinal injury and is registered as partially sighted. She receives care on a 1:1 basis. At times our client uses her wheelchair however her wishes are to be as independent as possible.
The work is varied and involves the support worker assisting the client to engage in leisure activities, enabling the client to use local amenities such as the leisure centre, cycling, craft and cooking classes as well as supporting the client to attend community events. The support worker will work as part of a small team to provide support and assistance whilst promoting our client's independence and life skills at every opportunity. Occasionally there may be times when support is to be given at home. Tasks will include assisting our client to cook as well an encouraging her to keep her own home environment clean and tidy.
Occasionally it may be necessary to work additional hours depending on the client's planned activities.


* To ensure consistency of approach with the client in accordance with advised approaches
* To liaise with and support the family as required.
* To work as part of a small team and communicate appropriately with our client, her family and fellow team members.
* To follow the Service User Plan as documented for the client.
* To ensure opportunity is given to participate in activities as identified by client / others while achieving a balance between work and rest for the client.
* To assist in all therapeutic activities as prescribed by and with supervision of MDT.
* To be aware of any significant changes in the client's health, functioning or behaviour, and inform the client's family, case manager as appropriate.
* To encourage the client's independence as far as possible.
* To be aware of the client's vulnerability and take precautions to protect it.
* To be aware of the cognitive problems and endeavour to cater for these at all times.
* To respect confidentiality at all times.
* To be aware of the client's limitations and strengths.
* Within reason, to adapt support according to changing needs, as directed.
* To be trained in all relevant skills to undertake role, as identified by the case manager in liaison with other professionals involved in delivery of support for client.
* To adhere to guidelines when taking the client out in the community.
* To be answerable to the client's parent in the first instance and supervised by the case manager.
* To be aware of the problems that the client may have due to her conditions.
* To carry out domestic chores as appropriate
* To encourage our client to keep her immediate home environment clean and tidy
* Attend relevant training days and sessions when the opportunity arises.
* To attend meetings as requested.
* To complete relevant documentation as instructed.
