Effluent Plant Operator - Cardiff

Effluent Plant Operator

Location: Cardiff, Memory Lane Cakes
Work Days: Monday to Friday - 40 hours (Day working - hours to be agreed)
Salary: £22,000 - £24,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Contract: Permanent

Role Key Accountabilities   

  • Continually monitor and maintain the effluent treatment plant
  • Maintain plant equipment to a good standard so as to ensure accuracy and compliance and undertake a regular cleaning regime of pipework, bunds, tanks and the general area
  • Understand the compliance required from Welsh Water to ensure the discharge consent limits are not breached
  • Understand the treatment requirements of the effluent plant
  • Undertake continuous monitoring and adjustment of the effluent plant so that it operates efficiently
  • Ensure there are smooth handovers with the weekend and night shift teams
  • Training of the weekend and night shift teams, ensuring they’re can maintain the effluent plant when not in attendance  
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the external regulatory authorities, welsh water and 3rd
  • party service providers, liaising with them to ensure chemical and sludge levels are maintained and controlled
  • Undertake daily analysis of the effluent to monitor and optimise the operation of the plant
  • Liaise with 3rd party service providers to specify and evaluate improvement opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience: Engineering and/or chemical experience is advantageous, but not essential.
  • Knowledge/Skills: Must understand the fundamentals of water treatment and why it is necessary (training can be provided)
  • Broad Site knowledge and an understanding of Site drainage system.
  • Ability to construct and issue basic reports.
  • General IT literacy and high level of literacy and numerical skills essential to understand and review plant running costs.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor improvement activities.
  • Be able to demonstrate high levels of Health and Safety knowledge and awareness in the role on a day to day basis
