ITN Mark Education is looking to recruit a number of experienced and accomplished Teaching Assistants for pending long-term vacancies to begin in September. You will be required to work within Specialist Resource Bases providing support to learners with behavioural and emotional difficulties.

Applicants will have already obtained suitable experience, ideally supported by relevant qualifications. Previous experience of working with statemented pupils, and knowledge of the SEN spectrum is advantageous, particularly ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder), PMLD (Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties) and S&L (Speech & Language).

Other experience and qualifications in Makaton, PECS, Manual Handling and Team Teach would be beneficial.

Main Functions: To assist in promoting the learning and personal development of the pupil to whom you are assigned, and to enable the pupil to make best use of the educational opportunities available to them.

To aid the pupil to learn as effectively as possible in both, group situations and independently by, for example:

* Clarifying and explaining instructions
* Ensuring the pupil is able to use equipment and materials provided
* Motivating and encouraging the pupil as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to pupils’ needs
* Assisting in weaker areas, e.g. speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation etc.
* Using praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the pupil to concentrate and stay on task
* Liaising with class teacher, SENCO and other professionals about individual education plans (IEPs), contributing to the planning and delivery as appropriate
* Providing additional nurture to individuals when requested by the class teacher or SENCO
* Consistently and effectively implementing agreed behaviour management strategies
* Helping to make appropriate resources to support the pupil

Other duties may include:

* Work on a one to one basis and small group basis with a child with special educational needs.
* Act in accordance with school policies, procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection, health and safety advice and behaviour management.
* In conjunction with the designated teacher, contribute to the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of learning programmes for individuals.
* Participate in the delivery of local and national initiatives, for example literacy and numeracy strategies etc.
* Monitor and contribute to the assessment and recording of the child’s development, including keeping observational records where appropriate. Be involved in the sharing of this information.
* Contributing to the preparation and tidying of classrooms and outdoor areas, including washing paint pots / brushes, mixing paints, clearing spilt paints or liquids, assembling climbing equipment, filling and emptying water tubs, washing cookery equipment, cutting paper etc.
* Exercise supervision of children during the school day, inside and outside.
* Assist with resolving behavioural and emotional problems of children.
* Monitor and report on identified pupils in and out of the classroom.
* Promote development and learning in the areas of physical, emotional, academic and social education.
* To assist children with language development, particularly oral language and taking part in individual and group discussion with children, storytelling and reading, mime and music work under the direct supervision of the teacher.
* To develop good relationships with children, parents and other professionals.
* Help to promote children’s self esteem
* Provide appropriate experiences for individual children and groups in accordance with the school’s planned curriculum policies.
