The role

We’re looking for a Front End Developer to join our development team which consists of backend developers, Front End developers and solution architects. Your expertise will help us deliver modern and compelling web experiences for our members, employees, and the public.

Your knowledge of the modern frontend development ecosystem will enable you to collaboratively identify and recommend appropriate technology choices. You will be writing a web application using those recommendations and communicating with a .NET backend.

About our technology

Our technology stack of choice is Microsoft overlaid with JavaScript, Vue.js and CSS. We use the Sitecore platform to deliver the best-in-breed web experiences and authoring experiences hosted on Azure built using the latest .NET technologies.

Primary responsibilities

  • Create exciting and usable user interfaces on both the web and mobile web using CSS, JavaScript, and HTML.
  • Work in a tight-knit team of developers to deliver solutions in an agile environment.
  • Deliver functional user experiences that match business requirements, user stories and style guides.
  • Ensure efficiency of page load speed, page weight, and code simplicity.
  • Provide accurate technical estimates for development time-frames.
  • Research interface possibilities and next-generation web/mobile technologies.
  • Projects may require meetings at different RCN locations, candidates must be happy to travel.

Technical competencies

  • CSS and CSS pre-processors
  • HTML
  • JavaScript programming, OO concepts and techniques
  • Git
  • ES6 experience a plus
  • Exposure to Vue.js is nice to have
  • Knowledge of Gulp or Grunt beneficial
  • Developing responsive user experiences
  • Agile development methodology
  • Strong experience designing functional and aesthetically pleasing UIs
  • IDE experience (such as Visual Studio)
  • Familiarity with C# MVC is helpful
  • Experience with a CMS a big plus

The work environment

You will be based at our Cardiff offices located in the Cardiff Gate business park. The development team are located in their own office space with a team music system and headphones are allowed.

The offices have breakout space, fully-equipped kitchen and a quiet room. Most weeks there are ongoing events to participate in both onsite and outside of work.
