Team Leader - Barry

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated team leader to work with and supervise a team at our small, three bed home in Barry. You will help to oversee the provision of excellent holistic care, promoting the well-being of individuals and supporting them to make their own choices and decisions to the maximum of their capability.

Gofal Cymru Care caters for adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems, some of whom can display challenging behaviours. The role can be demanding but is always immensely rewarding.

Applicants must be over 21 years old in line with CIW requirements.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

Oversee, support and mentor junior members of staff and identify training needs. Carry out delegated HR related tasks, including supervisions and appraisals for which training and support will be available. Ensure regular team meetings and residents’ meetings take place and that effective shift handovers take place.

Along with the manager, take responsibility for rota planning, ensuring that there are sufficient staff available at all times with the correct skills, gender mix and experience for the activities planned.

Participate in the assessment, development, implementation and review of service user care plans and risk assessments. Make sure accidents and incidents are documented and reported by staff in line with policy and regulations. Administer medication as prescribed and in accordance with company policy.

Make sure the needs of the individuals we care for and support are at the centre of everything we do. Support them in making their own choices and decisions to the maximum of their capability, and ensure that their needs and wishes are fully considered in any decision relating to them.

Oversee correct ordering, auditing and storing of medication and COSHH products in accordance with GCCL policies and procedures. Carry out any other administration duties in line with the role.

Qualifications and Skills required

 QCF/NVQ Level 3 qualification, willing to work towards QCF/NVQ Level 5.

  • Evidence of having undergone mandatory training
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in a care home setting.
  • Previous experience in a leadership / supervisory role.
  • Experience of mentoring staff and providing them with a good role model.
  • Experience of working with people with learning disabilities, autism, and/or mental health problems with challenging behaviour
  • Experience of dealing with health care professionals and external agencies.
  • Working knowledge of safeguarding issues, POVA, DOLS, Social Care & Wellbeing Act. ·
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Good numeracy, literacy and IT skills. Able to produce clear and accurate reports.
  • Understanding of the requirements of Care Standards and the changes under RISCA.
  • Strong leadership skills and organisational ability.
  • Able to use own initiative as part of a team.
  • Be of a caring nature able to support residents in a patient but firm manner
  • Physically fit to meet demands of the post
  • Able to work flexibly within the rota system to include evenings, weekends, bank holidays, on call, overnight wake-in and sleep-in, duties.
