Participation & Progression Mentor - Mid Wales (To cover Ceredigion & Powys)

Reports To: Involvement & Quality Co-Ordinator and local project manager

Term: Fixed term 2 year contract until September 2020

Based At: Across Ceredigion & Powys

Salary: £19,566 per annum pro rata

Hours of work: 22.5 hours per week (Between 9.00am-17.00 Monday to Friday)

Introduction

The Wallich is a homelessness charity which provides support services to homeless and vulnerably-housed people. The organisation formed in 1978 in Cardiff, and now supports around 4000 people a year across the majority of Local Authorities in Wales. The Wallich's values are of empowerment and treating people with dignity, respect and an unconditional positive regard. The principles of our work are based around solution focused working, harm reduction, and the creation of an environment where the people we support are actively and meaningfully encouraged to be involved in their support, and the development and delivery of services. Project Description At the core of the support we offer is client involvement, giving our service users the opportunity to shape and guide the work of both their local projects and the organisation in general. The Participation and Progression Team delivers learning and development programs, supported volunteering and involvement activities and develops employment opportunities for service users.

Purpose of Role

1. The purpose of the role is to facilitate the delivery of the RSVP Programme (Residents’ & Service Users’ Volunteering Programme) and our WISE (Working in Sustainable Employment) Programme by assisting our clients to learn and refresh skills in a trusted environment, with the purpose of increasing confidence, social capital and if applicable, employment prospects.

2. The post holder will be required to deliver pre-employability training to service users of the organisation and work closely with participants, Human Resources, project staff and corporate partners to assist service users to gain and sustain employment.

Person Profile

Knowledge

  • Hold, working towards or have a willingness to achieve a PTLLS qualification.
  • Knowledge of welfare to work and the benefit system
  • Knowledge of services available to assist long term unemployed and working age claimants into work.
  • Knowledge of the third sector
  • Understanding of the Investing in Volunteers standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of how your personal life can have positive and negative impacts on your own performance and attendance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the need for professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk assessments and how to apply control measures effectively and safely.

Experience

  • Experience of using database systems to monitor outcomes and producing statistical reports.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Outlook to intermediate level
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults on a one to one and group basis
  • Experience of developing and delivering workshops and training sessions in a creative and innovative way
  • Experience of managing, monitoring and evaluating performance
  • Experience of self-motivating, and motivating others, to engage positively with change and innovation
  • Experience of working with diverse people in a non-judgemental way, respecting their personal choices.
  • Experience of professionally and effectively representing the wishes and best interests of Service Users and the organisation whilst building beneficial relationships with a range of agencies and internal staff.
  • Experience of effectively dealing with challenging situations whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Experience of organising resources and prioritising workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Experience of lone working on own initiative and without close supervision.

  • Excellent administrative skills
  • Driving licence and own vehicle essential
  • Willingness to work across Mid Wales regions
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable but not essential.

Induction details: New starters at The Wallich will be required to complete a 5 day Induction in Cardiff at the commencement of their employment.
