IT Systems Engineer

Location: Newport City Centre Head Office

Salary: £22,000 - £24,540 per annum

The primary purpose of the role of IT Systems Engineer, will be to provide to provide advanced support to users and to support the IT support team to resolve issues, acting as a point of escalation for more challenging issues.

Key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that incidents are resolved in a timely manner to meet defined service level targets
  • Proactively help resolve tickets and issues where required
  • To participate as a project resource as and when required
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade IT network infrastructure
  • Windows Server Administration, Management and Configuration

Knowledge of/experience in the following technologies is required

  • Windows operating systems including server/desktop variants and associated technologies.
  • Microsoft office suite
  • Active directory
  • Virtualization preferably Hyper-V
  • Networking knowledge including LAN/vLAN/WAN technologies

The successful candidate will be proactive and keen to spot opportunities to refine and improve processes and service, with strong problem-solving abilities,  and will be able to deal directly with users in a friendly and highly confident manner, demonstrating excellent internal user communication skills.

Strong planning, organising and prioritising abilities are essential for this role, along with proficiency in appropriate business language and ability to present ideas effectively.

Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange/ e-mail security products e.g. Mimecast is desirable for this role

Company Description

From the most humble of beginnings the Society has grown into a large and highly efficient organisation.


The Society was founded by a group of local businessmen on the evening of Saturday, January 23, 1869. On May 7 that year the Society granted its first loans, £200 to Mr John Hellier of 6 Tunnel Terrace and £150 to Mr James McBean, a bootmaker of 118 Commercial Road.


Since that time the Society has served the people of Newport and surrounding areas through two world wars, two turns of the century and seen Newport grow from a population of 26,000 people and 3,900 properties to its present size. Members of the Society are proud of its past and its valuable contribution to the economic growth of the wide area it serves.


Today the Society provides a range of Savings and Mortgage products to an increasing number of people throughout South Wales. As a local building society we remain active within our community, supporting local causes through sponsorship, and aiding community organisations and charities through our Charitable Foundation.
