Information Security Officer - Newport

Information Security Officer

Location: Newport City Centre Head Office

Salary: Circa £35,400 - £39,000 per annum

The primary purpose of the new role of Information Security Officer, reporting to the Customer Quality & Assurance Manager, will be:  

Responsibility for setting the Society’s policy for information security and associated functions, across all of its operations.  It will play a key role in developing methodology, completing assurance exercises, monitoring and recording compliance to the policies as well as recording and authorising any exceptions and waivers.

The keys tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement information security policies, assuring that these compliant with all applicable legal or regulatory legislation
  • Manage and drive the information security incident process, including investigating or working with relevant teams to deal with the incidents, identify the root cause and amend policies when required
  • Conduct post-incident investigations and provide advice to address issues and/or amend procedures to enhance the Firm's information security protection
  • Ensure all Information Security Governance documentation is reviewed on a regular basis and recommend amendments in security policies and practices in accordance with changes to working practices or regulatory compliance
  • Ensuring appropriate internal and external tools/applications to assist with the reporting and management of governance, allowing for monitoring and completion of non-compliance across all areas of the business
  • Co-ordinate the execution of Business Continuity testing, plan maintenance and playbook update.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of  working in Information Security and will be a certified Information Systems Manager (CISM), with ISO 27001 Implementation/Audit Qualifications.  Good experience and knowledge of ISO27001 PCI-DSS and NIST would be desirable.

From the most humble of beginnings the Society has grown into a large and highly efficient organisation.

The Society was founded by a group of local businessmen on the evening of Saturday, January 23, 1869. On May 7 that year the Society granted its first loans, £200 to Mr John Hellier of 6 Tunnel Terrace and £150 to Mr James McBean, a bootmaker of 118 Commercial Road.

Since that time the Society has served the people of Newport and surrounding areas through two world wars, two turns of the century and seen Newport grow from a population of 26,000 people and 3,900 properties to its present size. Members of the Society are proud of its past and its valuable contribution to the economic growth of the wide area it serves.

Today the Society provides a range of Savings and Mortgage products to an increasing number of people throughout South Wales. As a local building society we remain active within our community, supporting local causes through sponsorship, and aiding community organisations and charities through our Charitable Foundation.
