What is special about this opportunity?

We provide domiciliary care and support on site to older people and people with physical disabilities over two sites in Blackwood and Caerphilly. You will feel the reward of building lasting and trusting relationships with those you support, seeing them maintain their independence.

The role will develop your communication and interpersonal skills, as well as your knowledge and networks within the support work role. This truly is an exciting opportunity for you to develop both personally and with your career These positions have the same responsibility as our contracted staff, however as a relief member of staff, you can select shift patters that match your personal needs.

How can I make a difference?

As an Assistant Support Worker you will be working within our Extra Care Scheme, providing support throughout the day to people living within the complex in their own flats.

You will be involved in day-to-day support including: personal care, some domestic tasks, pursuing hobbies, support in the community and promoting independence, updating support plans and risk assessments and assisting with planning rotas.

Who are we looking for? (for more detail see Role Profile):

A background of working with people with age related physical or mental health needs is desired, but not necessary as full training and support from senior staff and management is provided.

More important are;

  • Excellent communication skills, with an enthusiastic and positive outlook
  • The desire to support people living independently in their own flats
  • Ability to respond to people’s emotional, psychological, social and spiritual needs
  • The confidence to work alone in a sometimes challenging environment, using your own Initiative
  • The desire to develop skills, undertaking appropriate training courses when offered
