Summary

To work as a Key Worker for chil­dren between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years within the Nursery or Club setting, ensuring that we provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment for the children.

Please note that you may be required to assist with doing school pick up and drop offs to local schools only using your own car for this post- please specify in your application if this would be a problem for you as we will consider all applicants.

  • Ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the Nursery, implementing the daily routine in the base room and helping oversee the activities of student members of the team. Prepare the children's records in your group and institute reviews for par­ents, in conjunction with the Manager
  • Give support to other personnel within the Nurseryand to fully participate in rotas, team or planning meetings or other Events as identified by the management team.
  • Take all reasonable precautions are taken to prevent accidents, recognising that the safety of the children in the nursery setting is paramount. Record accidents in the log book and Incident Forms. Ensure that the manager has initialed the Incident Form before the parent receives it.
  • Ensure provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures, family or religious backgrounds, and stages of development. ensure that you are fully aware of the dietary requirements of all children at nursery, either for cultural or medical reasons. To ensure that you double check with your Team leader each meal served to any child with special requirements There will be zero tolerance of any errors in this respect, as they are potentially life threatening. Undertake all duties, tasks or activities reasonably requested by your Team Leader or the Management Team as required.
  • Formulate and operate a programme of activities suitable to the age and ability range of children attending the Nursery, in conjunction with the Manager. Liaise with and support parents and other family members. Ensure child is collected by someone known to the nursery.
  • Work alongside parents of special needs children to achieve full integra­tion within the Nursery. Establish the needs of special needs children and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate.
  • Attend regular staff meetings outside working hours.
  • Be flexible within working practices of the nursery. Undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc.
  • Specific Child Care Tasks:
    - The preparation and completion of activities to suit the child’s stage of development.
    - To ensure that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.
    - Washing and changing children as required.
    - Providing comfort and warmth to a poorly child.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • BTEC HND (or equivalent) or NVQ Level 2 or above Early Years
  • Experience in working within the setting of a Day Nursery.
  • Basic food hygiene certificate.
  • CRB certificate.
  • Paediatric first aid certificate.
