Assistant Support Worker - Extra Care

What is special about this opportunity?

At Cefn Glas we support older people and people with physical disabilities to live independent lives in their own homes. Based in Blackwood, we are a community under one roof with fantastic facilities including a restaurant, hairdressers and hobby room. You will feel the reward of building lasting and trusting relationships with those you support, seeing them maintain their independence.

The role will develop your communication and interpersonal skills, as well as your knowledge and networks within the support work role. This truly is an exciting opportunity for you to develop both personally and with your career. This post is for 20 hours per week and temporary for 6 months in the first instance.

For this role you will require an Enhanced DBS check, which we pay for. As part of a growing organisation there are endless opportunities for training, career development and progression.

How can I make a difference?

As an Assistant Support Worker you will be working within our Extra Care Scheme, providing support throughout the day to people living within the complex in their own flats. You will be involved in day-to-day support including: personal care, some domestic tasks, pursuing hobbies, support in the community and promoting independence, updating support plans and risk assessments and assisting with planning rotas

Who are we looking for?

A background of working with people with age related physical or mental health needs is desired, but not necessary as full training and support from senior staff and management is provided.

More important are;

  • Excellent communication skills, with an enthusiastic and positive outlook
  • The desire to support people living independently in their own flats
  • Ability to respond to people’s emotional, psychological, social and spiritual needs
  • The confidence to work alone in a sometimes challenging environment, using your own Initiative
  • The desire to develop skills, undertaking appropriate training courses when offered
