Trainee Assistant Chef - Newport
Newport
£8.21 per hour
22.5 hours per week

Are you wanting to develop you career in catering?

Are you looking to expand your knowledge of specialist dietary requirements?

Are you positive about building a career within an organisation that recognises the contributions of its staff and the critical role they play?

This sounds great, tell me more…!

Capel Grange is a part of Linc Care and operates in the not-for-profit sector. Opened in 2009, it is Linc Care’s first purpose built community nursing home in Newport providing high quality person centred care for 72 elders who have a variety of care and physical needs. All of our bedrooms are spacious and en-suite designed around the people who live in the home. There are five separate communities each with their own lounge and dining areas and on the ground floor there is a lounge and dining area leading to a conservatory and access to the enclosed landscaped garden.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual who is looking to advance into the position of Trainee Assistant Chef. You will build upon your existing knowledge and experience by working alongside experienced Chef/Chef Manager’s and undertaking the appropriate work based learning (including professional qualifications) which will eventually allow you to operate independently within the role of Assistant Chef. With 9 sites across South Wales that operate professional kitchens, and further plans for expansion in the pipeline, there couldn’t be a better time to consider launching a career with Linc.

What skills do I need to have?

You will be required to have a real passion for food, and a desire to build a successful career for yourself within catering. You will need to have significant experience working within a professional kitchen environment, and ideally already possess basic catering qualifications at or equivalent to NVQ Level 2. The role will require you to work 22.5 hours per week over 3 days (including at least every other weekend). With no late evening shifts and no split shifts, there couldn’t be a better role which will allow you to work in catering and also balance your personal commitments away from the workplace!

Duties will include:

  • Supporting the Chef/Assistant Chef in liaising with staff to produce nutritious, high quality, well presented meals to all residents on a daily basis.
  • Deputising for the Chef/Assistant Chef in their absence, overseeing the work of the catering staff and general kitchen management.
  • To set by personal example, excellent food standards.
  • Work to Health and Safety and environmental health standards.

You will enjoy working in a team and have a positive attitude to supporting your colleagues and the residents. You will also take pride in cleanliness and organisation on shift, understanding that Health and Safety and Food Safety are essential in the workplace.

This is exactly what I’m looking for! How can I apply?
