Big Data Engineer | Oxford/London

The client is using technology to build innovative platforms and smart content solutions based on our huge collection of scientific literature. We operate at the cutting edge of big data, semantic web and cloud technology to enable the scientific community to make critical decisions faster and more effectively.

About you:

We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Senior Data Engineer with a deep interest in big data and technologies such as Spark, Scala and the Hadoop ecosystem.

The role will be within a fast-growing agile team in our London/Oxford offices to help design and build a platform for analyzing our content and extract copyright and compliance data. This is an exciting new opportunity to play a key role in changing the way in which we provide value to the publishing industry and protect our content. You will devise and implement a modern approach to mining papers for insights that we can share with our customers, partners and the wider industry.

You should bring:

� The ability to build cloud based solutions using modern technologies
� The ability to expose those solutions using APIs so that other applications can make use of them
� Knowledge of techniques such as test-driven development, pair programming and continuous delivery
� A collaborative style that will enable you to work with Product Managers to translate ideas into high quality software solutions

You should have:

� Developed on the JVM using Scala and possibly other JVM languages, knowledge of Python or R is a bonus
� Experience with Spark, or the Hadoop ecosystem and similar frameworks
� Familiarity with tools such as AWS, Mesos or Docker and an instinct for automation
� Agile experience with Scrum/Kanban/XP
