Merrils Ede Solicitors is a long established law firm with offices in Penarth. We specialise in Commercial and Residential Conveyancing, Family Law, Probate, Wills and Trusts. We are seeking the right candidate to maintain the high level of service provided to our clients in the Penarth Office.

The main purpose of the role is to deal with the technical elements necessary to provide a quality and comprehensive conveyancing and probate service with a customer service focus and working in accordance with our accredited quality standard ISO 9001 and our CQS accreditation.

Duties to include:

  • Assisting solicitors with the day to day running of files; organising files and ensuring good file management
  • To deal with word processing and typing from digital dictation, hand written notes and to ensure the fee earners correspondence is ready for despatch including the necessary photocopies and enclosures
  • Carrying out searches, reviewing results and identifying any issues that arise
  • Reviewing title registers and highlighting any issues
  • Drafting standard letters to clients and Solicitors
  • Obtaining replies to enquiries and responding
  • Preparing contracts and other ancillary documents
  • Keeping clients up to date; dealing with telephone, email and written queries
  • Post completion work to include SDLT submissions, Land Registry applications and applications to register charges with Companies House
  • Preparing schedules of deeds to send to clients
  • Drafting Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Dealing with probate applications

The successful candidate MUST have experience in this role and also be a graduate with the LPC qualification and a knowledge and understanding of property and Wills and Trust law and the ability to practically apply this knowledge. Success in the position can lead to a training contract.

The ability to build and maintain effective client relationships is key for this position, as is the ability to effectively manage time in order to meet the strict deadlines imposed on this type of work. Friendly and a helpful team player. Calm under pressure. Well organised with ability to prioritise their workload.

In addition, a level of administrative and IT skills are required.
