• Responsible for maintaining assigned supplier relations by selecting suppliers and negotiating prices for the material and/or services required, ensuring the procurement of nominated materials and services to agreed programmes by the most economic, timely and efficient means.
• Analyse, negotiate and report supplier price changes.
• Conduct periodic commodity surveys to obtain price comparisons: evaluate market trends to develop new services and create cost savings.
• Select new and alternative sources of supply and in collaboration with technical staff select new and alternative materials and services, providing technical and/or commercial advantage to the company.
• Ensure the maintenance of adequate records of all enquiries, quotations, orders, deliveries and problems arising with particular emphasis on information relevant to negotiations and supplier performance.
• Ensure all purchasing requisitions and programmes are correct and reflect the current supplier’s lead-times, keeping management and user departments informed where changes threaten work programmes.
• Identify potential problem areas and recommend changes to avoid their recurrence.
• Contributing to the formulation of Company purchasing policies and ensuring their correct interpretation and implementation.
• Follow up rejected material and obtain necessary credit.
The ideal candidate will have:
• A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a purchasing environment
• A background in sheet metal, stamping, turning, CNC machining and castings procurement
• Solid communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
• Two ‘A’ levels, HNC or CIPS Diploma or equivalent. Membership of CIPS is an advantage
• Good working knowledge of IT
• A driving licence is essential
